Sloppy Joes

The classic barbecue beef sandwich, aka Sloppy Joe. This is a great recipe to be cooked in a crock pot or simmered on the stove.

1 lb ground beef, turkey or chicken
1/2 chopped medium onion
1-2 chopped stalks of celery
1 chopped green or red pepper
2 garlic cloves peeled
1 tsp prepared mustard
1 c Ketchup
1 tsp salt
1 tbls chile powder
2 tlbs sugar
1 – 2 tsp cayenne or red pepper flakes (optional if you want some spice)

Finely chopped the vegies or cut into chunks then toss it all in a blender or food processor. Process the mixture to a find texture.

Brown meat and vegie mix in a large pot or in a skillet, if you are going to use a crockpot. Drain and add remaining ingredients. Reduce heat and simmer for 1/2 hours or longer if in a crockpot. Add water if too dry.

Serve on toasted buns, noodles, tortilla chips, etc. Can add grated cheddar / monterey jack cheese, toss under a broiler to melt a bit if you like.
